Week 774 – Conduit Clips, Waves in Japan

by | Apr 6, 2026 | Weeknotes | 0 comments

Each week we’ll endeavour to publish some details of the interesting things that members of DoES Liverpool have been up to over the past seven days. You can find out a bit more about them in our introductory post.

And remember, if you’re involved with DoES Liverpool at all, let us know what you get up to so we can include it here! The easiest way is to post on Mastodon – if we follow you there, just add #weeknotes to any post you want included. If you’re not on Mastodon but would like to be, chat to one of the organisers and we’ll help you get started. And of course, you can always just send us an email!

Things of Note

  • Adrian McEwen:Needed some clips for the networking conduit I’m running while the floors are up, so tried out the new @freecad v1.1

    #FreeCADFriday #weeknotes #3Dprinting

A screen grab from FreeCAD of the design. It's got a flat plate at one end with two countersunk screw holes, then two supports run away perpendicular to that to a ring at the end that the conduit will pass through
One of the clips, 3D printed in orange PETG plastic, sits on a mat on a table next to a couple of pairs of forceps (they weren't involved in any of this, just happened to be lying around in the
One of the clips installed under my dining room floor. It's screwed into the underside of the flooring joist and there's some black flexible conduit running through it. Running alongside is one of the pipes for the radiator, showing my not terrible but also not perfect mitred corner of the pipe insulation I've fitted. We can also see some of the low brick wall between rooms that the joist rests upon, and the bare dirt under the house, plus a grey mains cable.
  • DoES Liverpool:🗓️ The next in our regular DoES Salon series is this Wednesday, 8th April.
Pat Link will share how introducing plastics recycling in his teaching journey helps to spark student engagement and critical thinking, helping them see themselves as changemakers.

  • Andy Green (3DPrimo):
  • Looks like Andy’s having a great time in Japan, running a trial Print Party in Kanagawa, with a view over to Mount Fuji, using printing plates created using the laser cutter here at DoES Liverpool.

He’s also been running “Recoupling Art and Science” workshops in Shinjuku, Tokyo, organised by @taichikikaku and generously supported by Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation.

Shred plastic. Blend it. Meld scraps together with a heat gun. Make sheets. Laser cut it. CNC it. Stitch potato bags together with soldering iron? Make fabrics with a regular iron? What have we got, what can we make? We don’t know – let’s figure it out!
