Week 770 – New Boards, Cockerels, Yirgacheffe

by | Mar 9, 2026 | Weeknotes | 0 comments

Each week we’ll endeavour to publish some details of the interesting things that members of DoES Liverpool have been up to over the past seven days. You can find out a bit more about them in our introductory post.

And remember, if you’re involved with DoES Liverpool at all, let us know what you get up to so we can include it here! The easiest way is to post on Mastodon—if we follow you there, just add #weeknotes to any post you want included. If you’re not on Mastodon but would like to be, chat to one of the organisers and we’ll help you get started. And of course, you can always just send us an email!

Things of Note

  • Adrian McEwen:The conversation is the outcome. I did a bit of blogging about group post-it note exercises over the weekend.mcqn.net/mcfilter/thinking/the#weeknotes
  • MCQN Ltd:New board day!Our @museuminabox add on box, for those who want to run with an internal battery source, has arrived. Ready for testing
    #weeknotes

Three, of five, green PCB's that allow for battery power. The foreground shows the front with a Museum in a Box logo and the text 'Museum in a box battery module' and 'More blinky lights' The other boards show the reverse with a chunky on off switch, some leds and a battery power management ic.
  • DoES Liverpool:David Rycroft has been experimenting with some ideas today, using our laser cutter Fiona, including these lovely gold comb and footed roosters.

  • michael:Some work #weeknotes – a dive into how I’m integrating more accurate farming data into our biodiversity impact maps, and how I was briefly upset by a Black Headed Gull.https://digitalflapjack.com/weeknotes/fractional_life_progress/
  • michael:Work #weeknotes – Yirgacheffe 1.13One final pre-2.0 release (I hope) for my geospatial library, Yirgacheffe. What I find funny is that by carefully turning the ship around over the last 6 months since I decided that I wanted 2.0 to have a very different API to 1.0, the actually patch from 1.13 to 2.0 should mostly be removing old APIs I don’t want to support any more, as the new ones have been added alongside the old ones over the last six months. This also means for projects using Yirgacheffe, including two large biodiversity pipelines, I’ve been able to keep them incrementally updated (as the new APIs are simpler to use, so I’ve been motivated to keep up), and there will be little to no changes when they move over.https://digitalflapjack.com/weeknotes/yirgacheffe-1-13/

What are they? How do they work? Where can you find one? And how can you get involved?

We’re going to watch a short film about them and then we’ll hear from Mike Gorman, who runs the Repair Café in DoES Liverpool and will tell us more about them in general and why and how it got started.

MCQN Ltd and the Circular Arts Network LCR are sponsoring the pizza and refreshments from 6:30pm with the event starting at 7(ish)

Bring along some of your own materials that you no longer want or need, to swap for something exciting and new to you!

There will be a selection of fabrics, haberdashery and other materials available to buy or swap. A great opportunity to go through your stash of materials long forgotten or leftover from some old project. Or the ones that have never found the right project for, but they’re too good to just throw away!

Come and share resources and ideas with members of our crafty community. Many items also available to buy on a donation basis for those who want to come to shop instead of swap!
