Week 702 – TEALS, Bike PCBs, Shelf Games

18th November 2024

Each week we’ll endeavour to publish some details of the interesting things that members of DoES Liverpool have been up to over the past seven days. You can find out a bit more about them in our introductory post.

And remember, if you’re involved with DoES Liverpool at all, let us know what you get up to so we can include it here!

November Future Gazing / Community Meeting – Saturday

The most popular time in the Doodle Poll was Saturday 23rd November 4pm – 6pm, so we’ve booked the Event Space for then.

Please try to make it along to have your say in the way that DoES Liverpool is run and find out what you can do to help. If you can’t get there in person then get in touch and we’ll organise access via Zoom.

Things of Note

  • MCQN Ltd:Bike PCB bonanza today! Just placed the order for:
    * New prototype My Bike’s Got LED boards
    * More of the Microbit LED boards for kids workshops
    * The audio-level-shifter board for @amcewen‘s bike soundsystem#weeknotes #ibal234 #WLED #microbit #ibal249 #ibal250 #Kicad #BikeTooter

  • Adrian McEwen:Looking forward to trying out the new My Bike’s Got LED boards. On-board charging! An ESP32-C3 so we can do sound-reactive 🎶 And @huffeec has shrunk the footprint down so it’s almost half the size of the v1 boards 😀#weeknotes
  • DoES Liverpool:A simple turbine made by Sean J at from wood and laser cut acrylic, as part of a stem outreach session, to teach kids about electricity generation.

  • Jackie Pease:I’ve been experimenting with Indian Kolams in Kuguri-Zashi Sashiko-ish style – inspired by @anu1905 alpaca.pubpub.org/pub/eljjyi80.
    I haven’t yet managed to duplicate the machine-embroidered grid but I’m working on it! Here’s a couple of 3-3 dot Kolams on a hand-stitched grid (I was surprised they aren’t all single path).

Sunday 24 November, 2:00pm-5:00pmPlastic Playgroup

In a world with mountains of plastic and molehills of play, let’s get our spades out and shift the balance.

Make new things from abandoned plastic with us. Plantpots, purses … pedalos?Shred plastic. Blend it. Meld scraps together with a heat gun. Make sheets. Laser cut it. CNC it. Stitch potato bags together with soldering iron? Make fabrics with a regular iron? What have we got, what can we make? We don’t know – let’s figure it out!Two rules:1. No Objectives – this is an aimless and wandering session.2. Bring Your Own Initiative – this is an active session and we’ll help you get creative.Every two weeks on a Sunday afternoon, between 2pm and 5pm.Facilitated by Plastic Tactics – follow @plastacs on social for the latest updates, and to see what we make if you can’t be here in person
