Plastic Playgroup (DoES Workshop)

In a world with mountains of plastic and molehills of play, let’s get our spades out and shift the balance.

Make new things from abandoned plastic with us. Plantpots, purses … pedalos?

Shred plastic. Blend it. Meld scraps together with a heat gun. Make sheets. Laser cut it. CNC it. Stitch potato bags together with soldering iron? Make fabrics with a regular iron? What have we got, what can we make? We don’t know – let’s figure it out!

Two rules:

1. No Objectives – this is an aimless and wandering session.

2. Bring Your Own Initiative – this is an active session and we’ll help you get creative.

Every two weeks on a Sunday afternoon, between 2pm and 5pm.

If you use Room 29 then check out the discussion on the Git issue here and get involved – we need to move quickly as the new furniture is currently taking up space elsewhere.

"Week 644 – New Temporary Accessible Space"

Each week we’ll endeavour to publish some details of the interesting things that members of DoES Liverpool have been up to over the past seven days. You can find out a bit more about them in our introductory post.

And remember, if you’re involved with DoES Liverpool at all, let us know what you get up to so we can include it here!

Temporary Accessible Space

As mentioned previously, the lift at the Tapestry Building is currently being replaced, and the new lift is not likely to be in action before mid November. We’ve been aiming to set up a temporary additional space for people who can’t get into DoES Liverpool during this time, only to have a couple of options fall through.

Jason, our landlord, has kindly offered us temporary use of the covered courtyard area where Melodic were based. Melodic did a great job of making their bar area accessible, so at least some good has come out of a bad situation.

Over the past couple of days we’ve moved in desks, chairs, heaters, a fridge and cupboard, along with laser cutter Sheila and 3D printer Prints Adam. Thanks (so far) to Vicki, Helen from cycling, Gabby, Chris T, Mike G, Chris H, Adrian and Julian for helping. The space will be open for Maker Night this Thursday evening and Maker Day on Saturday – just come round to the courtyard entrance on Constance Street. We can move any smaller items of equipment like sewing machines and soldering irons down as and when people need them.

Outside Maker events and standard office hours, you might need to contact us first to make sure there’s someone who can let you in – we’ll work out who needs fobs etc. over the next few days.
