"Introducing our January 2025 Start Boost Members – Jordan and Jake"

A warm welcome to our January 2025 start Boost members – Jordan and Jake!

Desk Membership Winner – Jordan Hau

Workshop Membership Winner – Jake Thorne

Jake says “I’ll keep a diary of my activities and host it on a website (I’m afraid I don’t have social media.)

I’m looking forward to finally puzzling out Kath, the Passap Duomatic, and making my first hat (I have my double-eyed bodkins at the ready.) I’ll produce a ‘first steps’ zine for machine knitting with her (that I’d planned to make before I had to pause my membership) and generally try to make things easier for people that want to use the machine and her Brother sibling.

I’ll use the time to investigate some of the tools in the space that I haven’t used before, especially the pen plotter for exploring algorithmic patterns and image processing.

I hope to also put together a simple Z80 homebrew computer. Adrian pointed out to me that there are some Z80 processors tucked away that should be fun to use. I hope to find a way for this to contribute to the textiles room, or else to my misadventures.

I’m very keen to start a “pattern club” or similar at DoES, so there’s that to look forward to, as well!”

We hold a new Boost membership round every three months. Find out more here, and if you’re interested in applying, then keep an eye on our social media for details of the next round!
