"Week 633 – Robot Earrings, Royal Mint with Museum in a Box"

Each week we’ll endeavour to publish some details of the interesting things that members of DoES Liverpool have been up to over the past seven days. You can find out a bit more about them in our introductory post.

And remember, if you’re involved with DoES Liverpool at all, let us know what you get up to so we can include it here!

Things of Note

Museum in a Box https://does.social/@museuminabox@social.mcqn.com/110751558008858150

The Royal Mint Museum have the largest fleet of Museums in Boxes.

Care homes anywhere across the UK can get in touch with them and borrow a Box to run reminiscing sessions.

They’ve just hit the milestone of 1000 loans! (And are happy to send out more, so drop them a line if you’re interested)

Plastic Playgroup (DoES Workshop)

In a world with mountains of plastic and molehills of play, let’s get our spades out and shift the balance.

Make new things from abandoned plastic with us. Plantpots, purses … pedalos?

Shred plastic. Blend it. Meld scraps together with a heat gun. Make sheets. Laser cut it. CNC it. Stitch potato bags together with soldering iron? Make fabrics with a regular iron? What have we got, what can we make? We don’t know – let’s figure it out!

Two rules:

1. No Objectives – this is an aimless and wandering session.

2. Bring Your Own Initiative – this is an active session and we’ll help you get creative.

Every two weeks on a Sunday afternoon, between 2pm and 5pm.

Facilitated by Plastic Tactics – follow on social for the latest updates, and to see what we make if you can’t be here in person:

Twitter/Mastodon

As has been mentioned previously, we’re no longer able to collect our “Things of Note” automatically using the Twitter API. Please keep on tagging anything you want included from Twitter or Mastodon with #WeekNotes for the time being while we look for alternatives – ideas welcome.

One thing we’re aiming to do is use Mastodon more. If you’re a member of the DoES Liverpool community and want to join our instance (does.social) then get in touch for an invite. Any issues then just ask when you’re next in the space.

Things of Note

Things of Note

Again no Twitter API, but here’s a few photos from last weekend’s Liverpool MakeFest. We had a great time, with loads of visitors to the DoES Liverpool stand. Looking forward to a few new faces at Maker Night and Maker Day in the next few weeks.

From Zarino:

All of the @doesliverpool makers revving into action at @lpoolmakefest @liverpoollibraries this morning 🤖🎨🛠️ Big thanks to Barry and Cheryl for making this year’s badges ❤️ #livmf23

No @doesliverpool @lpoolmakefest appearance would be complete without @gorman662 and his rugs and synths! Smooth fibres and even smoother sounds! #livmf23

The twinkling, pulsating, jellyfish-like comet from @jackiesees welcomes @lpoolmakefest visitors as they enter @liverpoollibraries#livmf23

Terry’s mystical castle towers over the @doesliverpool tables at @lpoolmakefest. All cut and etched on the @doesliverpool laser cutters. #livmf23

McGraw the @doesliverpool pen plotter has been drawing (ha!) attention with its Spirograph patterns today at @lpoolmakefest – come pick one up from the ground floor atrium! #livmf23

It’s hard to believe we only met Jeri (@minisewnsew) at last year’s MakeFest. Some lovely words here:

A year ago today I met MY TRIBE at Make Fest. This time I joined them on a stand as a maker with @doesliverpool and it was absolutely wonderful to meet so many amazing people who were soaking up our creative enthusiasm and making all the hard work so worth it. Such good vibes 😎 thank you to all the makers and all the organisers and of course the visitors for making today such a success and a joy to be a part of.

Massive thanks also to @robotorium for jumping on an Instagram post of mine over a year ago s as me suggesting I come to make fest where we met for the first time. Absolutely solid friendship created. Much love!

Thanks Rosy for being my embroidery buddy today 😍

Here’s a great reel from Anne-Marie, which gives a good overview of the whole event:
