Each week we’ll endeavour to publish some details of the interesting things that members of DoES Liverpool have been up to over the past seven days. You can find out a bit more about them in our introductory post.
And remember, if you’re involved with DoES Liverpool at all, let us know what you get up to so we can include it here
National Coworking Day
To celebrate National Coworking Day, we’re opening our doors for a completely free day of coworking at DoES Liverpool, this Friday, 8th August. We’d love to see you there – more details here.

Things of Note
- Museum in a Box:The Royal Mint Museum has one of the largest fleets of Museums in Boxes – 76; and they’re the most travelled. They’ve sent them out to over 1600 care homes all across the UK over the past four years, racking up nearly 25,000 boops! This #MaintenanceMonday @amcewen is working through a bunch of them that have come back to HQ for some TLC and repair work#weeknotes #GLAM #repair

- Jackie Pease:This looks as though it might interest some of the crochet geeks @DoESLiverpool https://www.grannylifecrochet.com/home
#WeekNotes #GrannyLifeCrochet - Adrian McEwen:A bit of #FreeCADFriday to add a couple of screws to fasten the two halves of the audio-level-shifter case (because my initial friction-fit pegs didn’t handle the vibration of being mounted on a bike very well)Just checking over clearances before sticking it on the 3D printer#CAD #weeknotes #3Dprinting #OSHW
- Jackie Pease:Dilute Hitomezashi in crochet cotton on a laser cut isometric grid (based on Katherine Seaton paper).I did quite a lot of these on small triangles, and not knowing how they would turn out in advance was a good feature. When my first attempt at a larger hexagon didn’t work, I wrote a p5 program to show me what the output would be before I stitched it (I used the same values for each orientation).
I also had a go at machine embroidering, but it’s going to need more work!

Sunday 10 August, 2:00pm-5:00pm | Plastic Playground
In a world with mountains of plastic and molehills of play, let’s get our spades out and shift the balance. Make new things from abandoned plastic with us. Plantpots, purses … pedalos? Shred plastic. Blend it. Meld scraps together with a heat gun. Make sheets. Laser cut it. CNC it. Stitch potato bags together with soldering iron? Make fabrics with a regular iron? What have we got, what can we make? We don’t know – let’s figure it out! Facilitated by Plastic Tactics – follow on social for the latest updates, and to see what we make if you can’t be here in person: |
