Sari Forest brings to you Indian Folk Art painting workshop
Join artist Komal Madar for a hands-on guided workshop exploring the traditional Indian folk art of Madhubani painting, inspired by the vibrant patterns of her immersive Sari Forest installation. Originating from Mithila in Bihar, Madhubani is known for its intricate line work, symbolic motifs, and deep cultural roots. In this session, you will create your own A5 Madhubani masterpiece using contemporary tools—watercolours, while honouring traditional mark-making techniques.
This is a unique experience where you will have the opportunity to experience the Sari Forest installation with the artist herself.
No prior experience is needed. This workshop is open to all and encourages a mindful, meditative approach to art-making. Visual references and design templates will be available to guide and inspire you, while allowing space for personal expression.
Come create, connect, and take home a beautiful painting rooted in heritage and imagination.
All Materials will be provided.
About the Project
The Workshops being held over the weekend are part of multidisciplinary artist Komal Madar’s project, the Sari Forest.
The Sari Forest is a cultural, immersive installation and performance project made from donated saris, suspended to form a maze-like structure. This evolving environment invites visitors to explore healing and expression through voice, movement, and interaction. Rooted in community, memory, and care, the space becomes both sanctuary and stage.
Alongside the installation, a workshop programme led by trained facilitators includes Creative Writing, Indian Folk Art, and a Mindful Movement class. These workshops aim to build confidence, spark creativity, share personal stories, and nurture new connections across communities.
This soft launch is part of a long-term social engagement project that brings people together through fabric, storytelling, and embodied experience.
