The Big Move

Did you hear, we’ve moved to The Tapestry, just off London Road. We’re open for business, but while we’re settling in we’re including a brief update on how things are going each week.

We now have air-conditioning (and heating, but that’s less important at the moment 🙂 in Room 29 and the events space! We’ve also set up the desks in Room 29 and people have started moving in to work from there. We’re still working on the sound-proofing and flooring, but as that’s taking a bit longer than expected, we figured we should move in and start using it properly anyway!

If you want to help out, check the DoES Move The Tapestry and DoES Move – Settling In labels on the Somebody Should issue list, or get in touch.

The Big Move

Did you hear, we’ve moved to The Tapestry, just off London Road. We’re open for business, but while we’re settling in we’re including a brief update on how things are going each week.

Not a lot to report this week, as everyone was busy getting ready for Liverpool MakeFest.  However, as we were so busy with events we cleared out Room 29 and got some desks set up in time for the bioplastics workshop.  It’s not the finished set up, but does bring that room into more use.

The Big Move

Did you hear, we’ve moved to The Tapestry, just off London Road. We’re open for business, but while we’re settling in we’re including a brief update on how things are going each week.

We’ve got hot water in the toilets! This mightn’t seem a big deal (and really, it isn’t, the only reason we didn’t have it from the off here at the Tapestry is because the water heater fitted wasn’t powerful enough. We’ve got a new one now), but it was something that we didn’t have at all in our six-and-a-half years at Gostins.

This week we did some more sorting out boxes and tidying things up, partly so we could empty the user research lab room in preparation for it getting fitted out. We also got the window frames painted in Room 29. Both of the workshop rooms now have doors fitted, although they need a top coat of paint over the primer.

We’re starting to make ourselves comfortable now, working out how to use the space even better now we’ve lived in it for a bit.  Last week that was tweaking the layout of the CNC room, and this week we did the same for the main room.  Spinning the co-working desks through 90 degrees meant we could get another bank of six desks in.

Sorting out the desks also led to us tidying some of the other bits of the space and finding homes for things, emptying out more of the “short-term-storage” in some of the side rooms.

The internal windows in Room 29 got their first coat of paint now that the putty has dried, and we set up the new AV gear in the events space to give us better audio for talks.

We also heard back from one of the firms we’d asked about sound insulation.  The quote is pretty steep (even with us expecting it not to be cheap), so we’re still looking into that.  There is another lead for a different firm, which we’ll look at for comparison.

This week should see work start on fitting out the user-research lab.  That’s being done by external contractors, but we’ll need to clear everything out of there ready for them to start work on it.

During Maker Day we moved a few things on from the move list.  We got all the new putty in round the internal windows, so that’ll be ready to paint in a week (and half of the windows were masked up in preparation).  Sean J and Mike re-jigged the CNC workshop to better contain some of the dust and noise.  We also experimented a bit with the desk layout of the co-working area in the main room to use the space more efficiently.

The Big Move

Did you hear, we’ve moved to The Tapestry, just off London Road. We’re open for business, but while we’re settling in we’re including a brief update on how things are going each week.

Things are in a  bit of a holding pattern on the big to-do items as we chase down quotes.  However, we will be getting blackout blinds fitted to the events space this week, moving that along.

We could also do with prioritising replacing the missing putty on the  windows in Room 29 to give it time to dry before we paint it.  Anyone want to  brush up (or gain) their skills?

The Big Move

Did you hear, we’ve moved to The Tapestry, just off London Road. We’re open for business, but while we’re settling in we’re including a brief update on how things are going each week.

This week was the launch of the Fabric District’s vision document celebrated with a 4 day long festival. To get involved we hosted Jelly Liverpool on the Thursday, Maker Night Thursday evening and Maker Day on Saturday. Plenty of people came for a look around and it was good to show what we’re about and get more people interested.

We did lots of cleanup in the main space to prepare for this and work has been ongoing with sanding and priming the doors to go in the space. We also got some signage on our toilet doors!

There’s still work to be done on the doors but the big next steps are sorting out flooring for Room 29 and the events space. We’re committed to carpets, we’re still deciding quite how much sound proofing we need below them!
