The Big Move

Did you hear, we’ve moved to The Tapestry, just off London Road. We’re open for business, but while we’re settling in we’re including a brief update on how things are going each week.

This week things have moved on lots!  The wood and laser-cutting workshop is completely finished and looking awesome.

The kitchen has had vinyl  flooring fitted and also been plumbed in and units fitted, although we’re waiting for the electrician to run a feed to the water heater before we’ll have hot water.

There’s been lots of tidying and cleaning in the events room, which has been events room, office and kitchen for the past week, so it’s nice to be starting to expand out from that into the rest of the space.

In the main room, there’s been lots of work done on the floor.  The floors in the space are the biggest remaining task (more on that in a moment) and it’s been great to see so many people from the community pitching in to help with that (and everything else).

There’s plywood down over the most uneven section of floor, and this week that will be getting carpeted.  For the rest of the floor in the main room, we’ve been scrubbing (most of that is done now) and scraping off the old white paint, before giving it all a coat of varnish.  We’re close to having half of it varnished now, and once that’s done it’ll be a huge leap forwards in the space being fully operational.

People are working on making the space great most evenings and over the weekends, and all help is gratefully received.  Similarly if you can spare time during weekdays, we’re open for co-working and workshop users anyway and you’re welcome to do some decorating alongside them.

If you want to help out, check the DoES Move The Tapestry and DoES Move – Settling In labels on the Somebody Should issue list, or get in touch.

Our Crowdfunder Campaign

To help pay for all the costs of the move we’re running a Crowdfunder campaign.  We need your money and, more importantly, your help in getting word out about it.

The eagle-eyed among you will have noticed an excellent development in this at the end of last week…

WE HIT OUR TARGET!!!!  Thanks everyone!

Never one to rest on our laurels (and partly due to our discoveries about the flooring that we mentioned earlier), we’ve added a stretch target.

With just over a week to go, we’re extending our stretch target to a total of £7250.

This extra money will be spent on making sure our new home is at its best for all of our visitors. More specifically, the flooring of the new space needs some TLC, having withstood many years of wear and tear, paint and dust. So we’re looking for money to spend on:

  • Carpeting or lino where current flooring is not fit for use: £1100
  • Some black-out blinds for our new events space so that our projector can be used at all times of the day: £1150

Spread the good news and encourage your friends to help us reach the new target.  If you’ve been holding off because there was plenty of time to pledge, now would be a good time to dust off your credit card 🙂

Please share it with people you know, email them, tweet about it, post on Facebook or Instagram… it all helps, even if you think you don’t know many people, you’ll know different people.  Plus if you tag the DoES Liverpool accounts in any of your social media posts it lets DoES and others share your post too, so giving us more impact than if you just copy one of the DoES posts.

So, get as many people as possible too visit http://bit.ly/DoEpicFunding!

The Big Move

So, this weekend was the Big Move itself!  Thanks everyone who helped clean, pack, carry… and everything else over the past few days!  Everything is now out of Gostins and over at the Tapestry, and as you’ll have seen we are now officially up and running in the new space.

We have plenty still to do before the move is all finished off, so any and all help still most welcome.

The painting is almost all done.  The flooring and then laying things out are the big remaining tasks.  The kitchen should be plumbed in this week, and the worst of the flooring covered in plywood and carpet (and vinyl in the kitchen).

The campaign is going really well!  We’re at 90% of our target with two weeks left to run!!!  However, there’s nothing to stop us going over our target and making the space even better.  In fact, there have been some unexpected extra costs, or at least, the opportunity for extra costs, if we want to make the floors top notch.  So, we’re working on some stretch goals – keep an eye out for announcements on them as we get closer to our original target.

The Big Move

WE’RE MOVING TO THE TAPESTRY OVER THE EASTER WEEKEND!

Lots of progress and lots that we still need your help with!

The networking is almost finished – Mike and JR have been working tirelessly to flood the space with Cat6 cables, and the Internet feed is in (although not connected up yet).  The building work will all be finished this week, with most of the walls already up and just a few still needing sanding before they’re ready to be painted.

There were a bunch of us in over the weekend painting, with good progress made on the meeting room and one side of the main space.  Still the workshop rooms and the wall between the events room and Room 29 co-working to do.

We are vacating Gostins over the Easter weekend, so we need as many hands as we can get to help with everything that needs doing.

There will be people painting and prepping things at the Tapestry every evening this week, and there’ll be all manner of moving, painting and help needed on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.  Let Jackie know what your availability is, or just turn up at The Tapestry any time after 10am any of the days over the weekend, or drop us a line at hello@doesliverpool.com.

There are lots of things to do, both with the move and in preparation for the move. If you want to help out, check the DoES Move The Tapestry label on the Somebody Should issue list, or get in touch.

Our Crowdfunder Campaign

To help pay for all the costs of the move we’re running a Crowdfunder campaign.  We need your money and, more importantly, your help in getting word out about it.

We’ve got off to a good start and have hit 60% of our target already!  There are three weeks left to run, but we’ll be entering the mid-campaign lull and so need to keep making noise about it and reaching out beyond the immediate community.

With our move to the Tapestry looming, we’re including a brief update on how things are going each week.

As you can see above, the fit-out works are in full flow. This week is likely to be all about the painting, so if you can wield a paintbrush and have some spare time then let us know. There’ll be people working there tomorrow (Tuesday) and Thursday and over the weekend.

We’ll also be launching our Crowdfunder campaign this week to help pay for all the work that needs doing and to make the new DoES Liverpool even more epic! Keep an eye out on social media and the Google Group to hear when it goes live, then dig deep and spread the message far and wide!

The Big Move

With our move to the Tapestry looming, we’re including a brief update on how things are going each week.

We made an impressive start to moving things over, with lots of people volunteering on Saturday and Sunday to lift and shift.  We got everything from the staging room taken across to the Tapestry and packed down the rest of DoES Liverpool to a bare-bones operating level.

Everything at the Tapestry is just in storage, as there’s still plenty of building, painting and running of cables to be done.

There are lots of things to do, both with the move and in preparation for the move. If you want to help out, check the DoES Move The Tapestry label on the Somebody Should issue list, or get in touch.

The Big Move

With our move to the Tapestry looming, we’re including a brief update on how things are going each week.

As you will no doubt have seen, we’re moving into the help wanted phase, so if you can pack, carry, paint, drive… then we want you!

It will still be weeks before we leave our current home in Gostins, so don’t worry about coming in to use the facilities, but there’ll be less and less of the non-essentials knocking around as time goes on 🙂

The toilets are now fitted in the new space, and so the landlord’s fit-out is into the final stretch with the electrician on site wiring up many, many sockets.

We’re also readying a crowdfunding campaign, so those of you who can’t come and paint can just shower us with riches instead so we can afford to make the next iteration of DoES Liverpool the best it can be.  Keep an eye out for that at the start of next week!

There are lots of things to do, both with the move and in preparation for the move. If you want to help out, check the DoES Move The Tapestry label on the Somebody Should issue list, or get in touch.

The Big Move

With our move to the Tapestry looming, we’re including a brief update on how things are going each week.

We’ve chosen the contractor to do the fit-out, and they’re confident it’ll only take a couple of weeks to get all the work done.  There was also another meeting with the electrician to finalise the details for the socket positions, rings needed, etc.

We’ve got a date for when the Internet goes live at the Tapestry, which is March 19th.

While we still haven’t formally received the keys, we have got access to start moving things over.  Obviously this will be the non-essential stuff at first, as we can’t move properly until after our fit-out, but expect the rallying of people to carry and drive vans to start soon!

The Big Move

With our move to the Tapestry looming, we’re including a brief update on how things are going each week.

We’re up to five quotes for the fit-out, so should be making a decision on that soon.  One of the factors feeding into that decision is how much money we can spend on it, and on that note, there’s been some good discussion about the crowdfunding campaign over on the Google group (and still a bit of time if anyone wants to chime in and help).

The landlord’s refurbishment works aren’t finished but are still progressing.  The walls and flooring changes for the toilets on our floor are finished, so there’s just the plumbing work to do there.  We should get the keys from the landlord by the end of this month.

There are lots of things to do, both with the move and in preparation for the move. If you want to help out, check the DoES Move label on the Somebody Should issue list, or get in touch.

The Big Move

With our move to the Tapestry looming, we’re including a brief update on how things are going each week.

We’ve got three quotes for the fit-out now, and the newer quotes are looking more affordable.  As you’ll have seen from Helen’s post to the Google Group, we’re looking at how to raise the cash to help cover the cost of that with some crowd-funding, so please let us know if you can help.

The landlord’s works at the Tapestry are coming along, but not yet finished.  They were busy fitting out the toilets when we last visited.

And we’re also taking advantage of people having moved out of our current building.  As we’ll have more space to fill in the new space, we’re collecting more (and better) furniture from some of the empty offices.  There’s more dismantling and carrying still to do if you want to get some practice in before the big move…

The Big Move

With our move to the Tapestry looming, we’re including a brief update on how things are going each week.

We’ve had another quote for the fit-out work, and are still chasing down the third (plus a couple of people have mentioned some other options that we can pursue if we need to). This second quote is more promising than the first, but still more than we’ve got in the reserves. So we’re looking at how to resolve that too.

Over at the new building, things are getting more active. The landlord’s work on our floor is wrapping up, with the electrics being the main job outstanding now. And yesterday one of neighbours here in Gostins, MD Productions, finished moving into the Tapestry (where they’ll be closer neighbours on the floor below) and had their launch party.

It feels like we’re coming to the end of the calm before the storm that will be the move itself.
