Month: May 2023

"Launching the July 2023 Boost Membership"

Once again it’s time to announce the chance to get a free 6 month membership to DoES Liverpool.

If you already know what you’re doing then head over here to apply otherwise read on for more information about Boost membership.

Apply for Boost Membership

The DoES Liverpool Boost Membership was introduced to celebrate the 10th anniversary of our opening DoES Liverpool – the amazing coworking and shared workshop space in the Fabric District of Liverpool. Boost membership gives two people the opportunity to use the space free of charge for six months either with an allocated desk or by having 24-hour access to the workshop.

As things get increasingly difficult for people due to inflation, fuel prices and all the economic woes we’re dealing with at the moment we thought it would be worth pointing out that boost membership is open to anyone, even existing paying members. If 6 months free membership would help you out at the moment then feel free to apply, of course if you’re not already a paying member you are still welcome to apply.

Applications are open until 11:59pm on 13th June 2023, any applications received after this point will not be considered. We will endeavour to announce the winners within 48 hours.

We’ve now created a dedicated page with lots more information about Boost Membership so if you want to find out more just head over to there and take a look!

"Week 625 – Fashion and Pints"

Each week we’ll endeavour to publish some details of the interesting things that members of DoES Liverpool have been up to over the past seven days. You can find out a bit more about them in our introductory post.

And remember, if you’re involved with DoES Liverpool at all, let us know what you get up to so we can include it here!

July Start Boost Membership

Dates for Your Diary

DoES Liverpool are taking part in Wirral MakeFest on Saturday 3rd June (this Saturday! Get in touch soon if you’ve got something to display or want to volunteer) and Liverpool MakeFest on Saturday 1st July. Both are great opportunities for the DoES Liverpool community to show people what we do and what we make (and to meet other makers and see all the excellent things that they’ve been making of course).

If you’d like to come along and help, or have something you’ve made that you’d like to display, then please add your details to the relevant Git issues or have a word with one of the DoES Liverpool organisers. Even if you’re not sure you’ll finish in time it’s useful for us to be able to know what we might need to set up.

"Ukraine Visit"
Andy Green of 3DPrimo recently brought a group of Ukrainians to take a look round DoES Liverpool. Here he describes the visit:
On 9 May, DoES played host to a group of Ukrainian refugees based in Poland, who are over on a specially-arranged trip to Liverpool timed to coincide with the Eurovision Song Contest. We helped them create some of their own designs from scratch, whilst others adapted and personalised ones we had prepared earlier, including a Liver bird holding a Sunflower, the national flower of Ukraine.
These guys have experienced traumas at the sharp end of the war, so it was great just to be able to put some smiles on their faces and give them something to take back to Poland – and eventually Ukraine – to remind them of their time in Liverpool.
We were invited to add our names to a massive flag containing the handprints of orphans from Mariupol and we also humbly received messages of thanks from the organisers of the visit.
The visit is being covered in the local and national press and the group appeared on Granada News later that day.

Join us from 3pm – 5pm and learn how to fuse together layers of soft plastic (such as bubble wrap and unwanted carrier bags) to make a new material which can be used to create pouches, glasses cases, etc.

More details of this and other events taking place throughout the weekend are here!

Plastic Playgroup

In a world with mountains of plastic and molehills of play, let’s get our spades out and shift the balance.Make new things from abandoned plastic with us. Plantpots, purses … pedalos?

Shred plastic. Blend it. Meld scraps together with a heat gun. Make sheets. Laser cut it. CNC it. Stitch potato bags together with soldering iron? Make fabrics with a regular iron? What have we got, what can we make? We don’t know – let’s figure it out!

Two rules:

1. No Objectives – this is an aimless and wandering session.

2. Bring Your Own Initiative – this is an active session and we’ll help you get creative.

Every two weeks on a Sunday afternoon, between 2pm and 5pm.
