"Week 347 – Wearable Geometry"

Each week we’ll endeavour to publish some details of the interesting things that members of DoES Liverpool have been up to over the past seven days. You can find out a bit more about them in our introductory post.

And remember, if you’re involved with DoES Liverpool at all, let us know what you get up to so we can include it here!

Things of Note

Coming Up in the Next Week

Monday 29 January, 7:00pm-9:00pm IoT Liverpool
Thursday 01 February, 6:30pm-9:00pm Maker Night

The Big Move

With our move to the Tapestry looming, we’re including a brief update on how things are going each week.

We’re still waiting on more quotes for the fit-out, but the location of all the electrics has been finalised.  That will let the rest of the refurb proceed, and as they’re just finishing off the ground floor, focus for that will be shifting in the next few days to finishing off our space.

We’ve also received a quote for sorting out security access and assisted doors, and there’s a meeting being planned to work out the signage for all of the tenants on the building in general.

There are lots of things to do, both with the move and in preparation for the move. If you want to help out, check the DoES Move label on the Somebody Should issue list, or get in touch.

The Big Move

With our move to the Tapestry looming, we’re including a brief update on how things are going each week.

John and Zarino are still chasing down quotes for building the walls to separate off the workshop, meeting rooms, etc. We’ve had a price in for our walls from one contractor but trying to see if we can reduce it as it’s currently very high.

They were also working over the weekend to take some contractors around the space and try to get more quotes in.

And there have been long discussions over the toilet doors (details over differing floor levels in that area). There’s a site visit again today. Still to be determined, although we’re pretty sure this won’t be the final layout… 😉

The Big Move

With our move to the Tapestry looming, we’re including a brief update on how things are going each week.

John and Zarino are still chasing down quotes for the fit-out, and had a site meeting with one of the candidates yesterday.  And in the general renovation work they’ve been deciding on the location/spec for the heating and lighting to go in.

If you want a sneak preview, don’t forget there’s a community visit on Thursday.

The Big Move

With our move to the Tapestry looming, we’re including a brief update on how things are going each week.

A few more people got to see the new space last week as we hefted the massive (new, not-yet-functioning) laser-cutter from where we’d stashed it at the Tapestry and onto our floor in the building.

The new space is looking great, although with still a reasonable amount of work to be done before we can move in. Most noticeable is that the toilets on our floor (there are another three on the ground floor that we’ll share with the rest of the building too) are yet to go in. Part of that was down to us finalising how many toilets we wanted. Rather than squeeze in three toilets, we’ve opted for two, as that lets us have a fully accessible toilet in our space (in addition to one on the ground floor). That’s all finalised now, so will let the work on that carry on.

However, you don’t have to take our word for it, you can come along for a look yourself (don’t worry, no lifting of laser-cutters required) on January 11th at 10am. Check the Google Group for full details of the visit.

In preparing-for-the-move news, Jackie and Chris Thompson took advantage of the festive break to do a load of sorting out in the workshop and storeroom in Dinky. Lots of stuff has moved into the staging room, junk cleared out, etc., which should make it easier to rearrange and sort through what’s left. They’ve also been deploying the first of the “Notices of Disposal” on things where it’s not clear who they belong to (i.e. not on someone’s desk or in their labelled box), or whether we should be taking them to the new space. Don’t panic if you think you might have something knocking around that could fall under it, it’ll be a few weeks before anything with a notice on gets disposed of, but we do want to encourage you to come in and label your things clearly or take them home 😀

There are lots of things to do, both with the move and in preparation for the move. If you want to help out, check the DoES Move label (stats: 41 open, 24 closed) on the Somebody Should issue list, or get in touch.
